FAQ

What is “summer school” and what are my options? This is a pop-up Mysore-style ashtanga program. Wade is teaching for one month in Richmond. Students can join for 1, 2, or 4 weeks (1 week = 6 classes, 2 weeks = 12, 4 weeks = unlimited) or drop in for single classes. There may be led classes or conferences added depending on the group that assembles for Summer School.

Are beginners welcome? Yes, and highly encouraged to join. Ashtanga is an endlessly adaptable and modifiable form of yoga, and Mysore-style instruction Summer School will be 1:1 at each student’s own pace.

What is ashtanga? Ashtanga is a vinyasa-based yoga method rich in tradition. If you’ve done any type of vinyasa, rocket, power, or flow, ashtanga will be somewhat familiar. It is primarily a breathing practice, with all movements linked to breaths. To learn more, come practice.

What does “Mysore-style” mean? This refers to the ashtanga teaching method popularized in Mysore, India (more here). Students learn postural sequences at their own pace with 1:1 instruction.

Where is class? See locations below and get directions/instructions on access upon sign-up.

It says class is two hours long - what’s the deal? Practice length varies by person. Most people practice for ~30 minutes in the beginning. Show up as early as the listed start time or otherwise with enough time to finish before the listed end time.

Why is practice (nearly) every day? Ashtanga yoga is traditionally practiced 5-6 days/week, with one rest day per week and full/new moons taken as holidays. Practicing 5-6 days a week for a month is a great way to dive deep into this practice, but it is not required. Our rest day for Summer School is Saturday. August 19 is a moon day.
